Rescuties Animal Rescue Code of Ethics

  1. We will provide all animals with appropriate veterinary care, to include age-appropriate vaccinations, microchipping, spay/neuter, defleaing, deworming, and combo testing for cats.

  1. In the event a cat tests positive for FELV or FIV, the cat will be segregated and retested with the IFA test in 6 months, unless an adopter is found before that time, in which case full disclosure of the positive test result will be made.

  1. We will provide all animals with appropriate shelter, food and water. We prefer a species appropriate diet of grain-free, meat based canned food, but do not prescribe any specific brand of food to our fosters. We will educate adopters in how to properly feed cats.

  1. We will treat all cats and people with respect, compassion, and kindness, remembering that they are all living beings with feelings and emotions.

  1. We practice “rescue for life” - our adopters are free to return any animal at any time for any reason, without judgement.

  1. We will provide full disclosure to adopters about any animal's known history, although often history is not known. If we know the animal has a chronic disease or condition we will educate the adopter regarding said disease or condition.

  1. We will provide post adoption follow-up.

  1. We will not adopt out any animal that has not been spayed or neutered. No exceptions. We do have a “foster to adopt” program where a person can foster the kitten of their choice until said kitten is old enough to be altered.

  1. We will practice ethical intake – all animals must be taken in with the owner's permission or provided by the proper authorities. All animals will be scanned for microchips and if one is found the owners will be notified.

  1. We take a stance against animal cruelty in all its forms.

11.    We do not condone hoarding. Hoarding is not a number of animals in a home, even a large number, but a failure to    provide    a   standard of care to said animals.

We encourage other rescue groups to adopt similar codes of ethics.
